A Night with Janis Joplin

Welcome to the long-awaited UK premiere of the Janis Joplin musical, starring the brilliant musician and actor Mary Bridget Davies in the evenings and West End royalty Sharon Sexton in the matinee performances. The show takes you on a memorable, music-filled journey celebrating Janis Joplin and her biggest musical influences, including Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Odetta, Nina Simone and Bessie Smith, all of whom inspired Joplin to become one of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s most remarkable female icons.

Like a comet that burned too fast, Joplin hit the music scene back in 1967, becoming an instant hit thanks to her phenomenal voice, thrilling stage presence and extraordinary music. She fast became the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll, a must-see headliner at festivals including Monterey and Woodstock. This musical revealing her life and inspirations is packed with Joplin classics including ‘Piece of My Heart,’ ‘Cry Baby’, and ‘Me and Bobby McGee’. The artist tragically died aged just 27, a loss as deeply-felt as that of Jimi Hendrix just a couple of weeks earlier, and of Amy Winehouse in recent years. Don’t miss this big-impact West End treat.

moving and genius
I went with a Janis Joplin fan who was moved to tears by the performance. He said it was like being being at an actual Janis Joplin concert.

Fabulous
Loved the music, loved the cast, loved everything about it - but there is a little swearing and it is loud so maybe not for children or anyone of a sensitive disposition.
